Error accessing database

Postby Anders » Wed Oct 31, 2018 1:41 pm

Hello,

I've had some few occasional error messages before but I have not really experienced any major loss of functionality associated with these. Now however I'm at a full stop. I can access and edit the database fine, but Elwin can't. I get this message every time I try to add, replace or insert a component in any project. The component list opens, but it shows only a few lines of components. Apart from this all seems to work fine, I could create a project by copying and edit an old project, if the old project contained every single component i need.

Anyone else have this problem?
Any suggestions for a repair or workaround?

Hi,

When do you get the error message? In project editing or in database editing?
I get a error message when opening the component selection in project editing. Re-sizing any column will fix the problem and all components will be shown. See picture:

You write you see some components:
What happens if you edit one of those components (like add -2222 in the component number). Will it be updated in the list?

Hi,

The message appears in project editing. Similar to your example, but mine is always "0059DB17"

I get it when using one of the buttons:
Add component
Replace component
Insert logic symbol defined in component
Insert layout from component DB

If I edit a component, this change will show in the list.

It seems (just guessing) that the list is read ok up to some point. Then at this point there is some problem and the reading aborts. As in you example the columns are not adjusted to fit the first line.

EDIT:
Forgot to mention, resizing the columns does not show more components.
The same error also appears again if I try to filter the list.

Can you set the status of the most recent added component in the database to obsolete?
This will not delete the component but it will not be loaded to the component list.

Alternatively send the database files (ewd and ewd00) to support@3xm.se
and I will try to replicate the error message and hopefully find a solution.

By the way, are your project using one or several project databases? If several, what happens if you create a dummy project and use only the database that have the missing components?

Hello Again,

Yes, I think so. If I did find the latest addition. Same situation.

I'm using only one DB, adding as I go to the one that came with the installation.

A fresh empty project, have same issues with DB.

I'm sending it :D

The root cause for the bug was found by user Anders.

If you enter a ? mark in any of a component fields description, article number, order number, manufacturer name, supplier name or technical descriptions then the bug may happen. The result is the newer components (than the ? mark component) will not be visible in the list.

This bug is identified in v1.2.10 and probably all previous versions.

To avoid this bug then don't write any ? mark in those component fields. The bug will be corrected in next Elwin version.
